📸 THREE YEARS 📸

Three years of self employment, learning as I go and crazy whirlwind of a ride!

There was no posing for a nice photo this year to mark another year, especially in this heat! So here’s the happy photographer who’s found a balance of building a business and a lifestyle I love, while helping a local farm in the busy seasons.

As always, when I look back at a year and think of what I’ve accomplished I try to be proud, rather than disappointed I haven’t hit goals I have set out ahead.

As I have hit many goals I never even set out to accomplish.

It’s been a comeback year in business. A year where large weddings, functions and all social events can “come back”.

I’ve embraced every small outdoor wedding where the only item on the agenda that mattered, was that two people were able to get married.

And I’ve also had the pleasure of working with large groups again where celebrating with many people in their lives finally got to happen. Of course that means for many wedding photographers.. back to coordinating what I like to call, circuses.

The continuation of families supporting me is heartwarming, and I love getting to travel around to capture memories and see different farms.

The continuation from the agricultural community is of course always my favourite. Getting to work with cooperations to bring the raw side of agriculture to life is amazing. Those that know me, know all things agriculture I’m giddy to capture.

That being said this past year also brought me a whole new set of learning curves and mistakes. Scheduling has been an interesting battle with weddings being switched around often due to co*id. As well the power of saying no.

Knowing my limits is something I’m once again trying to figure out. Although I’m grateful for all the support, I can’t physically balance it all and need to know there’s a limit. To photograph every day, edit, respond to emails, schedule, book work etc etc…. and try balance social life, hobbies, friendships. I can’t always make it all happen.

Photographing isn’t necessarily a physically hard job, and yes it’s amazing I can work from home. Although there’s a lot of time and money put into the job behind the scenes. Often times I’m editing in a vehicle, a tractor, late at night, and yes sometimes I’ll even bring it while I visit friends.

Whenever I can cram it in. It’s the beauty and curse of being able to work whenever and wherever.

Thank goodness for amazing friends, and patient clients. Learning a better balance is probably what I said I was going to be better at last year and it continues to be a goal of mine this coming year.

So if I say I won’t photograph your non-farm family session, or your non-farm wedding. It’s not for any reason other than I can only balance so much and I want the work that I’m doing to be work I’m passionate about.

I hope in the coming year I can stick to being in the fields to help out during the busy seasons… and photographing all the agricultural content I can!

Here’s to another year of tractor editing, going with the flow and learning as I go!
